Hello! I’m Jerry Byers, a photographer with a deep passion for blogging. My enthusiasm for photography intertwines seamlessly with my love for writing. Today, more than ever, the technical world, the social sphere, and photography are blending, creating a rich tapestry of creative expression.
My Journey in Photography
My fascination with photography began many years ago. Inspired by my father, who spent countless hours in the darkroom with his Polaroid Land camera and Yashica 120 TLR, I, too, began exploring the mechanics of cameras. While I didn’t take many pictures initially, my interest grew more assertive.
Early Experiences
- As a child, I spent summers with my grandmother, using her SLR camera and learning the basics.
- At 12, I received a Kodak Instamatic 126, marking the official start of my photography journey.
First SLR and College Years
- In 1984, I bought my first SLR camera.
- I took countless informal photos during college, experimenting with Kodak’s Disc camera and my trusty SLR despite the manual challenges.
The ’90s Revolution
- The 1990s brought a photography revolution. I acquired a Canon EOS 10s and the venerable Nikon F4S. My love for medium-format photography led me to use a Bronica SQ-Ai and, eventually, a Pentax 67 II.
- In the late ’90s and early ’00s, I embraced point-and-shoot cameras, notably the Canon ELPH, which rekindled my creative spark.
Digital Era
- With the advent of digital photography, I transitioned from film to a Canon D30, enjoying the immediate results and cost efficiency.
- In 2007, I switched to Nikon and used various models, such as the D40, D90, D300, D700, and D810. I cherished my D750 for its exceptional photo quality.
- In 2016, I moved to the mirrorless format with Fujifilm cameras. These cameras are now my main go-to cameras. The lenses are incredible, and the image rendering is phenomenal.
Modern Innovations
- The iPhone and many photo apps have reignited my passion for photography. They make it easy to take, edit, and share photos instantly.
- Platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter have brought a new, dynamic dimension to photography, especially with the rise of iPhoneography.
I continue to learn, experiment, and evolve with photography, whether using my DSLR, point-and-shoot, or iPhone. This is a golden era for photography enthusiasts, and I am thrilled to share my journey with you.
Keep those shutters snapping!
Jerry Byers
